Employee Experience lessons from Jurgen Klinsmann
Back in 1994, Klinsmann joined a struggling Tottenham Hotspur team.
One of the things which he swiftly noticed was that the balls that they used in training were a mixture of makes, sizes and pressures. He recommended to the coaching staff that they trained with the balls that are used on matchday to help the players to get used to them. This was agreed.
Klinsmann's level of professionalism and the new training method helped to vastly improve the team.
So, if you translate this into business speak:
- Training = L&D
- Ball change recommendation = Speak-up Culture + Continuous Improvement
- Ball change = You Said, We Did + Frictionless Employee Experience
All leading to improvements in performance (as the team raced up the league and got to the semi-final of the FA Cup) and profit (more people came to the games).
Want to improve performance at work? Then think like an elite sports team.
